FAQ
What is a health coach?
A supportive accountability partner, dedicated to you and ready to move you in the direction you want. They are extremely clued up on the food and lifestyle habits that bodies need to function optimally and are trained to guide you towards your goal. They are not a quick fix. They are not physical trainers or dietitians. They are skilled accountability partners.
What is your role specifically and how does it differ from medical advice?
I want to help you move away from the scariness of your diagnosis towards the comfort of remission. We’ll work to close the nutrient gaps, reduce toxic load and ease stress, all to support your cancer treatment and recovery. I don’t diagnose or prescribe, instead, I help you understand your situation and set realistic health goals. My guidance is grounded in personal experience and extensive research and always respectful of your medical care.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. My coaching is offered online, making it accessible wherever you are. All you need is a quiet space, a stable internet connection, and a willingness to explore.
How long is the coaching process?
That depends on your needs. You may only need a few focused sessions; or prefer ongoing support over several months. You can choose from my set packages or we can decide together what feels right.
How much does it cost?
The packages range in cost but I work on a sliding scale with commitment over time, starting with R600 for a once-off 2 hour session which will be credited to your account should you decide to sign up to a package. Please talk to me about your financial situation, I am open to customising your experience and negotiating payment terms. I really do want to help you find calm and clarity.
What food philosophy do you follow?
I work with the concept of blood sugar balancing, a practical approach to eating that supports energy, mood, and metabolic health. This means cutting out sugars, refined carbs, and processed foods and incorporating sunshine, movement and community.
What is the coaching process?
Establish your smart GOALS.
Understand your current REALITY: we start with a 7-day food diary.
EXPLORE what and why
Establish how we ACHIEVE your health vision with specific actions
Bind actions to a TIMEFRAME
Generate EXCITEMENT for the road ahead
Plan REWARDS to celebrate the wins
Can you help me talk to my doctor or oncologist?
Yes. I can help you prepare questions, clarify your priorities, and feel more confident in medical conversations. I don’t speak to doctors on your behalf, but I do support you in advocating for yourself.
What if I have another type of cancer?
While my coaching is rooted in lived experience with breast cancer, and that’s where my deepest confidence lies, the core principles I use don’t change. I offer evidence-based, practical guidance around food, fatigue, and lifestyle support that can benefit many cancer journeys. If you’re navigating a different diagnosis, I’d be happy to guide you and will gladly research the specifics to ensure our plan is thoughtful, respectful, and tailored to your needs.
Why is there so little clinical evidence of the role of food in cancer treatment?
Sadly, therapies like the blood sugar balancing concept or the ketogenic diet often sit on the sidelines, not because they lack promise, but because they can’t be patented. That means no company can own or exclusively profit from them, so there’s little financial incentive to fund large clinical trials.
What research supports the role of food in cancer treatment and recovery?
What does a natural therapy approach, without chemotherapy/radiotherapy, look like?
This approach involves significant changes to how you eat, live, and care for your body and mind. It’s not a passive path. It asks for incredible discipline and a deep commitment to your health goals. While it may be as simple as eating more vegetables and starting an exercise habit, it could involve ending a toxic relationship or quitting an unhealthy work scenario.
If you’re exploring a path outside conventional treatment, I can definitely support and guide you. That said, I do strongly recommend that you remain under medical monitoring, through your home doctor, clinic, oncology unit, or a programme like Project Flamingo. Your safety matters.
Disclaimer: My coaching is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. I do not prescribe or recommend therapies in place of conventional care. All decisions about treatment should be made in consultation with a professional healthcare provider.
